Life hacks - pick a quarter of them at random, run em through the shredder, and say “upon further review you didn’t meet our qualifications at this time”.
Bam, I’ve saved you quite a bit of time.

What the heck is a “hiring folder” and why is it printed out??

Exactly: do you really want to hire someone so unlucky as to have theirs shredded randomly like that?

Hiring is very convoluted at my place of work, and of the eight different forms that need to be completed, three of them legally have to be on paper, and at that point it’s better to print everything out to avoid complicating the matter even more.

Believe me, as I sit here printing out my 300th sheet of paper and gaze upon a printer that just ran out of toner, I would do almost anything to modernize.

A few months ago I had seven candidates scheduled for an interview and not a single one showed up. People keep telling me how hard it is to find a job and yet....

One of my worst experiences in my current job was a “recruiting blitz”, i was dragged into.

interviewing 7 people in a day, each interview is an hour long super technical affair.

And then another hour just to fill in the review, and then another hour for the briefing on each candidate.

All the interviews done on a Friday, and the briefing were on Monday.

It destroyed my weekend.

Never again

What’s that position start at? There are places hiring but I’ve found that some are not paying a far wage based on the work...

Bummer dude. I like interviewing where I work, but I don’t do the print outs.

My best/worst interview was the time I strongly suggested a particular candidate not be hired. I thought he was dumb. Well, t he area manager hired him any way and gave him to me to train.

Pretty sure we’re advertising $ 200/day at the moment, so $25/h for a standard workday in an entry-level job with tons of room for growth? It would be one thing if they stopped showing up after a few days of work, but it seems so strange that we’re getting maybe 20% of people who show interest to show up for the first in person interview.

I saw the Issaquah Highlands Safeway advertising $21/h for their entry positions. Man. I remember earning ten bucks an hour at Safeway not that long ago...

$25 is a great starting pay. I have some friends who I consider grossly underpaid but there's no tactful way to bring that up especially when we all feel like we're teetering on the edge of an economic collapse and whatnot.

Low-profile p ower strip ran below the trim to all of the musical gear on the right ! It bothered me having a long extension cord sticking out like a sore thumb, and this was a quick and easy solution that didn't require hacking up a rental.

That’s happens when any studio apartment within 20 miles of that location probably rents for at least $1200/month.

Being an old, I recall a wage maybe just under $5/hr, but that was during Clinton’s first term. I remember having a summer job in 1997 that paid $8.50, I was stoked.

It was a first for the team, only deep into Friday i realized “hi, this thing completely destroys my weekend”.

But hi, they never did it again, after all of us complained very vocally.

The real sad thing was that most of the candidates that we interviewed were a bad match.

Because whoever screened thier cv’s has no idea what they were doing.

We got 1 hire out of of all that, and even that hire was for a lower level job then originally posted.

T hat’s a tricky situation to navigate. It sucks to see people not making what they deserve, especially when there are likely people right next to them doing a third of the work and getting fifty percent more compensation

That’s why most businesses tell you not to discuss earnings (which I think is illegal). Wouldn’t want the overworked mess to know that the boss’s cousin makes  7 bucks more an hour and does nothing.

I remember asking for a raise when I worked for a marine construction company. The boss told me no to the raise because then if my coworker found out I was making more than him he might be mad. I told him we could keep it out little secret.

Correct, generally unlawful for employers to prohibit you from discussing pay and benefits with co-workers

However, a company MAY be able to prohibit you from doing so during work hours. It is easy for an employer to not jump through all the right hoops, though.

I want to say it was like $4.75 or $4.90 for me, WA has always been a little above federal, I think.   Looking at the prices of so many cost of living factors since then (housing and healthcare especially), I find it hard to argue the min wage is too high.
